Celebrate Your Connection to County Louth
Celebrate your connection to County Louth with this Heritage Crest Print from the Ireland Inspires Origins Collection.
Featuring the official County Louth coat of arms, the design offers a refined way to honor the county’s history, maritime heritage, and the generations whose story began in Lú.
About the Design
Set against a softly textured parchment-style background, the print presents the County Louth crest in a carefully rendered watercolor style.
The composition brings together the county’s heraldic symbols, its English and Irish names, and its traditional identity as The Wee County.
The softened watercolor finish preserves the character of the original arms while creating an understated heritage piece suited to both traditional and contemporary homes.
About the County Louth Crest
Granted in 1976, the County Louth coat of arms reflects the county’s coastal setting, commercial history, agriculture, and civic traditions.
The lower green section features the Right Hand of God, drawn from Muiredach’s Cross at Monasterboice and set against a circular golden background. Above it, two ancient sailing ships appear against a black field. The black recalls Muirthemne, an old Irish name associated with the sea off the Louth coast, while the ships represent Drogheda and Dundalk and the county’s long connection with trade and commerce.
Above the shield, a sword symbolizing administration is surrounded by ears of barley, reflecting the importance of agriculture in County Louth. The motto refers to the Celtic god Lugh as Samhildánach—master of many arts.
About County Louth
Known as The Wee County, Louth may be Ireland’s smallest county, but it carries a rich history shaped by ancient monuments, medieval towns, fertile countryside, and the Irish Sea.
From Monasterboice and Mellifont Abbey to Carlingford Lough, Dundalk, and Drogheda, the county holds a distinctive place within Ireland’s northeastern heritage.
